using the word preterit as a past tense is wrong ; the preterit stands as « preterit form » only for irregular verbs conjugate at the past tense...

I used past perfect, not the present perfect ! “we had killed”, you are right in a way that, simple past will be fine because, yes, indeed the action is finish for ever.

I choose that tense because is linked with the second verb at the simple present tense “we take”, and also to emphasize the “action” with “for good”.

But if I had to write such sentence I will be doing in that fashion :

Marie Antoinette was executed, the only thing left from her is taking selfies of her asshole !

Oui, je suis prof d’anglais et franco américain
