du nouveau question timing :

new timeline presented by the German MoD now.

- 21:12 : PRT Kunduz was advised by Afghan local command that fuel tankers were captured, and that the Taliban were planning to use these in an attack

- 23:14 : A B-1B in the area finds the two fuel tankers stuck 6 km SW of PRT Kunduz

- The B-1B does 15 minutes of surveillance (until 23:30) and reports that people carry weapons including AK-47 and RPG-7, then breaks off for refueling

- 23:50 : Two F-15 arrive over the scene and commence surveillance

- Apparently PRT Kunduz had a live video feed (!) of the scene from these aircraft at this point, and earlier received surveillance pictures from the B-1B

- A (not identified) « very reliable » Afghan source tells PRT Kunduz repeatedly and expressively that only hostile forces were on site, including 4 named Taliban commanders

- 01:39 : The commander of PRT Kunduz orders the air strike based on the previous information.

- F-15 crews recommend the use of 2000-lb bombs, not ok’d by the PRT commander to prevent collateral damage.

- 01:49 : The strike is executed by a single F-15 using one GBU-38 500-lb bomb on each fuel tanker.

- Subsequent surveillance by aircraft counts 56 dead and 14 fleeing NW.

According to the interview there was also (Afghan ?) HUMINT on-site, but no German ground troops.

There was also an additional secondary reconnaissance string that is mentioned, but classified (including its nature). One of the commenters in Wiegold’s blog suggests sat surveillance by a SAR-Lupe sat, another suggests ELINT.
