A Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) plane possible on its way back from Tripoli stopped for repairs for two hours in Malta after one of its tyres exploded as it landed on the runway at the Malta International Airport on Sunday afternoon.
One News reported that the plane – a Dakota DC-3 - landed at 3.45pm on runway One-Three. As it touched the ground one of the tyres of the wheels exploded.
The mission of the CIA plane is classified as ‘top secret’ and even the information of how many persons were on the plane and who they were has not been disclosed. Unofficial reports say that the plane operates regularly between Malta and Arab countries and possible was flying in from Libya.
As the plane stopped on the runway, Maltese security officers, police and members o the Armed Forces and the of the Civil protection department took all the necessary precautions to avoid problems for other planes using the runway.
As the plane stopped on runway One-Three, Park Nine, was closed to arriving and departing planes in Malta and Park Eight was used. The airport resumed normal operations at 6.00pm.
