Dear Claire,
I do share your indignation at the sorry state of our suburbans « sauvageons ». However, they are the product of a society that has forgotten them : we left them in ghettoes, not bothering to try to elevate their living condition.
I would like to have in mind that France is a cruelly racist country, especially to arab and black minorities, especially on the job market. You should have in mind that you have the same problem in the USA. I do remember that you had pretty intense racial rioting in L.A. after the Rodney King beating.
You believe in the virtue of working towards achieving one’s goal, in spite of the obstacles. This is a great philosophy of life. But sometimes, the obstacles are incredibly hard to overcome. My dad was treated as an inferior being for quite a long time, but i was the one suffering from it, more than he ever did (i am from a minority, but i was born french).
The current government has done NOTHING to stop these discrepancies from widening. It has established a system where justice is noticeably harsher for non-white people, giving rise to the feeling that they are not part of the republic, let alone the same people.
I am not about to give Villepin any mandate to do whatever. He is a political maneuverer, nothing else.
He comes from the same mold of old time aristocrats that spit on my dad. I am particularly aware of that, since I also belong to a very old and « respectable » french family.
He once said that « France is awaiting to get shagged. Her hips are trembling with anticipation ». He is nothing more than a rapist, moving with Tarquin’s ravishing strides. No wonder the Brutuses (the imbeciles) want to overthrow him.
Cordially,
Elias
